Term 3 will take you through the myriad decoration techniques available to the experienced potter. While some experience of ceramics would be useful for this course it is not essential. The basic techniques of ceramics will be taught to enable you to decorate but the emphasis will be on decorating the pieces you make yourself. On this fun and relaxed 10-week course, an exploration of ceramic artists and the techniques they use will be a springboard for learning about underglazes and the many interesting ways these can be applied and utilised. Various techniques of application will be taught including slip trailing, sgraffito and marbling. All of the major glazing techniques will be covered such as dipping, pouring and majolica. You will also learn how to apply resists such as wax and paper resists to create unique pieces of your own design. You will explore how glazes combine to create unexpected and interesting effects. To this end you will create test pieces and be encouraged to experiment. You will also have the opportunity to use overglazes such as gold and silver to add sparkling detail to your finished work. Recruitment - if we do not recruit to our target numbers we will try to offer the courses at reduced hours. If a course does not recruit enough students to run, you will receive a refund. Please refer to the Adult Course Guide for guidance on other refund issues. Why study at Cambridge Regional College? A modern spacious studio Ten potters wheels, clay extruders.
